Annie the Aussie is such a pretty girl! According to her mom, "She's a spunky, girly, attention seeking little girl. She loves to snuggle and play with her blue ball. She is very expressive, meaning she gives you eyes, smiles, pulls your finger very gently to get your attention and loves to play."

I make a lot of timelapse videos for my social media accounts but most of them don’t make it to my website… because I have to have time to draw! Haha! I've been drawing pet portraits for clients since 2017 and I get some questions more than others. So I thought I'd share the answers to the top 3 in case you have them too!

FAQ#1: How much does it cost?

Price depends on the size and complexity! My traditional bust portrait starts at 4x6 inches and $95, and my full body portrait starts at 11x14 inches and $315. Factors that affect price include adding the pet's name to the portrait or putting multiple animals in one portrait together.

FAQ #2: How long does it take?

My turnaround time fluctuates depending on the time of year. I'm currently taking orders for delivery mid-April! If you have a request regarding delivery let me know. I can't always accommodate those, but I'll let you know if I'm able!

FAQ #3: What kind of photo is best for my portrait?

Better Photo Quality= Better Portrait! I need a photo that shows me your pet in the position you'd like drawn. Here are some tips to help you pick (or take) great reference photos!

1) Natural Lighting. Outdoor photos are often best. Avoid dimly lit or flash photos.

2) Face-On. Most clients prefer a full-on view of their pet. Pro tip: make sure both eyes are showing!

3) Get down on their level. Take photos at your pet’s eye level, not looking down at them.

4) Get close. Fill the camera frame. Photos taken from far away often don’t have sharp enough resolution.

5) Be patient! Snapping or finding the perfect photo of your pet takes time!

Finally, I realize that in some cases, such as memorial portraits, you may have access to a limited number of photos. Curious about portrait size options?  I get this question all the time!

My bust portraits start at the 4x6 inch size and are available thru the 16x20.  

Full body portraits are available in sizes 11x14 thru 16x20.

4x6 and 5x7 portraits are great for a tabletop frame, while 11x14 thru 16x20 go great on a wall.  The 8x10 is particularly versatile in that it can go either way!

The 14x18 is a great option for a centerpiece on an open wall like a living room or an office.  Use it as a stand-alone piece or as an anchor for your gallery wall!

I've simulated frames to give you an idea of what you could do, but since I don't ship frames you will get to choose a style that fits your taste and space!  Frame it bigger to take up more space on your wall or frame it smaller to take up less.  I always include framing instructions to help you out and I'm available to you at any time for questions!

I'm really excited about the 14x18 because I know the jump from 11x14 to 16x20 was huge.  I'm excited to offer you guys an in-between option so you can pick the best fit for your unique family!

Here's the scoop on the 14x18: it's considered a sub-standard size in the framing industry, so you won't have as many framing options if you're looking for a readymade frame.  But if you're looking for a custom frame anyway, the size doesn't matter!  (By the way, I ran a custom frame shop for several years after college, so if you have any questions about the framing instructions I include in all my packages, reach out to me anytime!)

I absolutely loved getting to draw this Family Portrait recently!

This client reached out to me to chat about ordering a Family Portrait of all the dogs for her husband. We chatted a couple times and she sent me a ton of photos of the girls 😍

Once we decided which layout and reference photos best suited her girls’ individual personalities, I got to work. Drawing 3 dogs in one portrait is a lot more complicated than just a single dog portrait, but when I finally finished I sat back in my chair, took it all in at once and smiled. Is real life application of inches kind of a vague concept to you?  No worries!  Here’s a comparison between my most popular pet portrait sizes!  5x7, 8x10, and 11x14 are the sizes people order from me most often!

8x10 is my most popular size and I think that’s because it’s the most versatile- it could go either in a tabletop frame or a wall frame.  The smaller 5x7 fits best in a simple tabletop frame, and the 11x14 is made for your wall!
