Watch this Ostrich Portrait come together in classic Treebok fashion!

It's the super cute drawing you didn't realize you needed to see today.

As you can see, I even had to get out the easel for this one. That's because it's so long that I couldn't reach the top when it was laying on my drawing table!  

I drew this piece from a reference photo taken by my dad over 30 years ago. He loved the photo and framed it, and it hung in my bedroom my entire childhood. Well, as you might expect, it faded quite a bit. So several months ago, he asked me if I could use his original photo for reference to draw a Treebok version to replace the photo, correcting the color shift in the process. The resulting portrait is so much fun!

Custom Cat Portrait Final Step: Adding the Whiskers!

If you aren’t able to watch Treebok draw in person at an event, watching a video is the next best thing! Here’s a video I recently shared on my social media pages of the final step of any Pet Portrait: adding the whiskers!

Every Custom Pet Portrait I create is hand drawn, and they can take from 2 to 20+ hours to complete. Since most people don’t really want to stick around that long, I create timelapse videos so you can watch the process a little faster! The better quality photo you send me, the better your portrait will turn out! Here are some quick tips to help if you’re not sure what to look for in a great photo!

1. Natural Lighting. Outdoor photos are often best, although indoors in front of a window can also work well! Avoid sending dimly lit or flash photos.

2. Face-On. Most clients prefer a full-on view of their pet. Pro tip: make sure both eyes are showing!

3. Get down on their level. Even though it’s easier to take photos while standing, the best portraits are taken on the pet’s eye level.

4. Fill the camera frame. Photos taken from far away often don’t have enough resolution for me to zoom in for the detailing!

5. Be patient! Snapping the perfect photo of your pet takes time!

Finally, I realize that in some cases you may be limited in the number of photos you have access to, as in pets that have passed away. If you have any questions regarding the portrait quality I’ll be able to get from a specific photo, don’t hesitate to ask me!
