Pet Loss
Losing a pet is always a difficult time, and I always feel so honored to draw memorial pet portraits. I’ve noticed two types of people when it comes to pet loss: those who order a portrait early so they can have it before the pet passes, and those who order a portrait a while after the initial shock has passed and wish to have a lasting memorial of their furry best friend.
I got to draw this portrait of Bailey before she passed, and it was a sweet thing for her Mom to have when she passed away. I got to talk to the client again recently and here’s what she had to say: “I’m so glad I had you do my Mom’s Boston last Christmas because she passed earlier this year, but your beautiful picture shines in their house!”
Portraits are such a sweet way to memorialize a pet because there’s something really special about a piece that was lovingly hand drawn. I take special care with my pet loss clients to make sure you have a truly special memorial to keep.

Custom Pet Portraits
I get a lot of questions about my medium because it’s not something you see every day! Most frequently, people ask if I do dog paintings. Unlike a lot of Atlanta artists, however, I’m not actually a painter: I work in charcoal and pastel! Working in dry media makes it easier for me to draw in person at events because I don’t have to worry about the paint drying out when I take breaks to talk with clients and meet new ones!
Charcoal and pastel pencils enable me to get a great degree of detail in every piece. They are very workable, and best of all, they sharpen just like everyday pencils!
What does that mean for your custom dog portrait? It means that I spray it with a fixative before I wrap it to mail it to you, and I include a printed framing guide in each mailed package to help you mount it properly. All of my pieces are created on standard sized paper that are easy to frame! Of course you can also take your portrait to a professional picture framer who can help you with this.
I’m always available to my clients to answer questions, so don’t hesitate to reach out to me with questions before, during, or after you’ve placed an order!
